Canada to apologise for response to Air India bombing

The Canadian Prime Minister is due to issue his country's first ever apology to the relatives of the victims of the Air India bombing.

Three hundred and twenty-nine people were killed when a bomb exploded on the plane travelling from Montreal to Delhi off the West Cork coast.

Family and friends attended a memorial service in Ahakista this morning to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the atrocity.

A report published last week condemned the actions of the Canadian authorities before and after the terrorist attack.

Speaking at this morning's ceremony in West Cork Canadian Minister for Immigration Jason Kenney said that Prime Minister Stephen Harper will apologise for these errors today.

"Terrible mistakes were made," he said.
