Baby dies after fall from second-floor flat

A toddler who fell from a second-floor apartment in Galway at the weekend has lost his fight for life in hospital.

The 18-month-old was badly injured in the incident at Lydon Court apartments on Rosemary Avenue in Galway city at 10.45am on Saturday morning.

He was later transferred to Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin for treatment, but died there at 2.30am this morning.

A post mortem will be carried out to determine the precise cause of his death.

Gardaí say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the case, but are not treating his death as suspicious at this stage.
