Parteen Weir water level release down 6%

Limerick City Council Crisis Management Team has been advised by the ESB that they have reduced the level of water release at Parteen Weir again today by a further 6%.

The City Council has deployed sandbags at vulnerable points along the Quays from Merchant’s Quay to the Shannon Bridge at Mallow Street and at Verdant Place as a precautionary measure in view of the predicted high tides this week.

This deployment is in addition to those already deployed at low-lying sections of Lucas Drive, that part of Mill Road directly bounding the River Shannon, Siul na hAbhann Housing Estate, Meadowbrook and Corbally Road around Cooney’s Garage.

The situation is being monitored on an ongoing basis and if the City Council decides it is necessary to deploy sandbags in additional areas this will be done.

All roads within the City Council’s administrative area remain passable to vehicular traffic.

Members of the public are advised to stay away from any land that is flooded within the city boundary and not to use the waterways for leisure purposes.
