The 51-year-old is also being questioned about the attempted killing of five people during the shooting outside Massereene Barracks, Antrim, in March.

He was taken into custody in the county Antrim area and has been taken to the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s serious crime suite in Antrim town for questioning.

Sappers Patrick Azimkar, 21, from London and 23-year-old Mark Quinsey from Birmingham were shot dead outside the barracks.

They were the first soldiers to be murdered in the North in 12 years.

Prominent Lurgan republican Colin Duffy, 41, is one of two men already charged with the murders. He has been in custody since March.
