16 jobs to go with closure of news service
Sixteen journalists are to lose their jobs with the closure of news service Independent Network News (INN), it was revealed today.
INN CEO John O'Connor confirmed that the company, established in 1997, will cease operating from October 20.
Mr O'Connor cited a collapse in advertising revenue, the firm's primary source of income, as the reason for the closure.
āUnfortunately the company is no longer financially viable and is making unsustainable losses on a monthly basis, to the extent that the board, having considered all other options, has been left with no alternative but to arrive at this very difficult decision," Mr O'Connor said.
The announcement was made to 16 employees earlier today at INN headquarters, Lower Mount Street, Dublin.
āThis is a particularly arduous and sad moment for our skilled and dedicated journalistic team at INN," said Mr O'Connor.
"Their hard work and commitment has been the cornerstone of INNās achievements over the past 12 years and we thank them for their support and effort throughout.ā
Established as an independent news service for the commercial radio sector, INN is owned by 16 independent radio station shareholders.
