Fresh appeal for information on Luas crash

Gardaí investigating Wednesday's incident when a Luas tram and a bus were in collision in Dublin city centre to question Hundreds of pedestrians and motorists, it was revealed tonight.

CCTV footage from Dublin’s O’Connell Street shows that the bus driver had a green light, but detectives also want eyewitness accounts.

More than 20 people were injured, with several cut from mangled wreckage.

Gardaí want to interview anyone who was at the O’Connell Street-Abbey Street junction in a 40-minute period up to 2.30pm.

Separate investigations are underway but Dublin Bus is insisting that its driver was not at fault as the camera footage showed he had a right of way.

Luas operator Veolia refused to discuss initial findings.

The company has distant CCTV footage from the Abbey Street stop and it also has cameras which recorded the trip on board the tram.

Pedestrians who were outside the Clark's shoe shop in Lower O’Connell Street and in the middle of the road waiting to cross have been urged to come forward.

Motorists and taxi drivers have also been asked to give their accounts of the road around the time of the crash. The number to call is 01-666 8000.

Dublin Bus, Luas operator Veolia and the Department of Transport are all investigating as well as the Gardaí.

Three people remain in hospital – two stable and one young woman in a serious but stable condition.
