Pirate radio station founder has appeal against conviction dismissed

The founder of a pirate radio station in Dublin, Eamon 'Captain' Cooke, has lost his appeal against his conviction on 42 counts of indecent assault against two young girls in the 1970s.

The now 70-year-old with addresses at Heatherview Avenue in Tallaght and Wheatfields Court in Clondalkin entered 13 grounds of appeal against his 2007 conviction.

He had been jailed for 10 years by Ms Justice Maureen Clarke.

His grounds for appeal were based on corroboration of evidence, complaints concerning the adequacy of the trial judge's charge to the jury and the manner of the cross examination.

He also tried but failed to be furnished with a yet-to-be-published book written by a complainant. The three judge court this afternoon dismissed his appeal.
