Crimestoppers launched the appeal regarding the death of Liam ’Blackey’ Murray who was found with gunshot wounds in the bedroom of his Rathfarnham cottage in March.

Gardaí believe Mr Murray, aged 42, was killed between St Patrick’s Day and March 20 at his home at 463 Cruagh Road in Edmunstown, Rathfarnham.

Detective Inspector Gearoid Begley from Terenure garda station today made a special appeal to the public for information on the crime.

“We’re asking for anybody to come forward in confidence if they were in the Cruagh Road area on the evening of the Tuesday, March 17 or at any time between March 17-20 or saw any suspicious activity during those dates,” he said.

Crimestoppers said it was confident that someone has information that can solve the case.

“If anyone can help they can call Crimestoppers free on 1800 25 00 25 in the strictest of confidence,” a spokeswoman said.

“You don’t need to leave your name or your address. You may receive a cash reward for information given that leads to an arrest.”

The murder of Mr Murray was the eighth gun killing of 2009. Gardaí suspect the victim may have been involved in a row in the days before his death.

He ran a small car garage close to his home in nearby Templeogue, where he grew up.

Mr Murray is believed to have been socialising in a bar on Clanbrassil Street up to 6pm on St Patrick’s Day.

A friend who had been unable to contact him in the following days called to his house and found his body in his bedroom.

Irish Crimestoppers Trust was set up in 1998 by the Dublin Chamber of Commerce and the Garda to provide a confidential means for every citizen to report crime without fear of recrimination.

The Irish Crimestoppers Trust is sponsored by the Department of Justice & Law Reform, Dublin City Council, the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, Iarnród Éireann, An Post, Ulster Bank, Ladbrokes and Penneys.

Rewards are given at the discretion of the Garda.
