Four die on Ireland's roads

Four people died today as the toll on Ireland’s roads rose ever higher.

Two teenagers died following a road accident on the outskirts of Dublin in which three other young men were injured today.

In a separate accident a man in his 20s died when the car in which he was a passenger crashed in Co Mayo and tonight a woman died in a two car collision at Cloonlough near Michelstown, Co Cork.

The teenagers were among five males in a car which crashed at the junction of the Old Lucan Road and Brookevale Estate in Lucan in mid morning.

They were taken to the James Connelly Memorial Hospital where one was pronounced dead soon after arrival. The second died some hours later despite the best efforts of medical staff.

The other casualties were also taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Gardaí appealed for witnesses to the accident or those who saw a light blue Citroen C3 car at the time to contact them.

Earlier a 26-year-old man died after a crash between two cars at Bella, near Castlebar on Friday night.

The man was a front seat passenger in a car which collided with a second.

The drivers of both cars were taken to Mayo General Hospital suffering from injuries which were believed to be minor.

Meanwhile a man and child were in a critical condition after a crash on the M50 in Dublin.

The accident happened on the southbound carriageway close to the Red Cow junction. No other vehicle was involved.
