Dublin incinerator denied planning permission
An Bord Pleanála has refused permission for an incinerator in Rathcoole, Co Dublin, on the grounds that it would constitute an unacceptable risk of pollution.
The planning appeals body has ruled that the project, which would have processed 365,000 tonnes of waste each year, would be in conflict with the waste management plan for the Dublin region, which provides for one incinerator at Poolbeg.
The ruling says the proposed plant at Behan's Quarry would generate significant traffic, including heavy commercial vehicles, on the N7.
The board also says it was not satisfied that sufficiently accurate data was used to predict the impact of emissions on air quality and said the development would be unacceptable on environmental grounds.
