The names of the two Northern Ireland men who died after being caught in an avalanche while climbing in the Scottish Highlands have been released.

Three of the nine people who were caught in the avalanche died, including the two brothers from Co. Antrim and a Scottish man.

The two men from the North who died were 61-year-old Eamonn Murphy from Carrickfergus and 63-year-old John Murphy who lived in Portrush, also in County Antrim.

46-year-old Scot Brian Murray, from Tayside, also died in the tragedy near Glencoe.

Helicopters were called to the scene at noon yesterday.

Tom Richardson, a walker who survived the avalanche and called the rescue teams, managed to survive because he slid down the mountain on top of the avalanche.
