Dublin Bus drivers begin second day of strike
Dublin Bus drivers based at the Harristown depot in the north of the city are beginning a second day of strike action today over the introduction of two new routes.
The drivers mounted pickets at the depot yesterday morning when one of their colleagues was suspended for refusing to operate the new routes.
The dispute centres on the fact that Dublin Bus wants drivers on the new routes to start and finish their shifts in the city centre, rather than Harristown.
The drivers say travelling to and from the city centre will add several hours to their working week, but Dublin Bus says the arrangements have been approved by the Labour Court.
SIPTU and the NBRU have warned that the strike action could spread to other depots.
However, any such escalation is unlikely to materialise today.
