Car examined in lake-death probe
A car was being examined tonight by detectives probing the discovery of a woman’s body in a lake in the North.
With post-mortem tests to be carried out tomorrow, police confirmed they were treating the death as suspicious.
The unidentified woman, in her 30s, was found floating in Lower Lough Erne, near Belleek, Co Fermanagh.
A man walking his dog spotted the body at the beauty spot last night.
Detectives are following a definite line of inquiry, police said.
They are understood to be checking whether the woman was a foreign national.
She is believed to have had several distinctive tattoos and injuries to her body.
Tommy Gallagher, an SDLP representative who lives in Belleek, said no-one in the community had been reported missing.
He said: “We are fairly certain in the local area that everybody is accounted for.”
As the inquiry continued, police confirmed a car was recovered close to where the find was made.
Forensic officers have been called in to strengthen the investigation, which also involves a motor launch and police helicopter.
