Vigil for separated parents in Dublin

A vigil has been held in Dublin as a mark of solidarity for the thousands of children who will be separated from their parents and grandparents today.

The Unmarried and Separated Fathers of Ireland have said family law provisions in our Constitution are completely outdated.

Support groups for separated parents say the Government and those gone before it have failed to open their eyes to the problem of families breaking down in Irish society.

The Unmarried and Separated Fathers of Ireland say that in particular fathers are denied the right to love, know and care for their children.

They have called on the Government to implement measures to ensure equality.

The vigil took place after 11am today on O'Connell Bridge in Dublin city centre.
