Paint bombs thrown at Catholic church in Ballymena

Police in the North are investigating a paint bomb attack on a Catholic church in Co Antrim overnight.

Two paint bombs were thrown at the front door of the chapel in the predominantly Protestant town of Ballymena.

The attack happened at the Church of Our Lady in Harryville, where mass-goers endured weekly loyalist pickets a decade ago.

Ballymena, a stronghold of DUP leader Ian Paisley's, has a long history of sectarian violence against Catholics.
