US accused to appeal extradition to the Supreme Court

An American man whose extradition was ordered last month is to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court, it was revealed this afternoon.

Twenty-six-year-old Frederick Russell, from Pullman in Washington State, skipped bail after he was charged on three counts of homicide and three of assault using a vehicle.

Three students died when, it is alleged, his SUV ploughed into their car near Washington State University in June 2001.

At the time of his arrest here in November, Frederick Russell had been living under an alias with his girlfriend in Celbridge, Co Kildare.

It is understood that notice of the appeal has been lodged and the hearing is expected to take place in the new law term.
