A six-year-old boy tonight became the latest victim of an Easter weekend of carnage on the North’s roads.

He died in a head on collision between two cars in the village of Clough outside Castlewellan, Co Down.

His parents and three people in the other car were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The Fire and Rescue Service reported “mayhem” when they arrived at the scene and had to cut trapped and injured people out of their cars.

At around the same time a man and women and a lorry driver were taken to hospital after a crash on the Harbour Highway outside the Port of Larne in Co Antrim.

The couple were reported to be in serious conditions, but the lorry driver’s condition was said to be be no life threatening.

Over an Easter Weekend of death on the roads 19-year-old twin east Belfast boys who were passengers in a car driven by their 18-year-old friend died when their car crashed off the Ballygowan Road on the eastern outskirts of Belfast on Saturday morning. The driver also died.

Meanwhile 19-year-old Janeen Black from Pomeroy, Co Tyrone was killed in a two car collision on Saturday night. The male driver was detained in hospital for treatment to his injuries.

The driver of the other car was not hurt.

In yet another accident the driver of two cars suffered serious injuries following a head-on collision near Limavady.
