Decision on extradition of US fatal crash suspect delayed

A decision on whether American fugitive Frederick Russell will be extradited to the US to face trial for killing three students in a car crash will be delivered on May 9, the High Court heard today.

Mr Justice Michael Peart had been due to make his ruling today but delayed the case for one month. No reason for the postponement was given.

Russell is wanted in America to face charges of vehicular homicide after three students were killed, and three others seriously injured, in a high speed pile-up in Washington State.

He fled the US in 2001 shortly after being charged and was placed on the US Marshals top-15 most wanted list.

On-the-run for several years, the 27-year-old was arrested by gardaí in October 2005 while working as a security guard in a clothes store in Dublin city centre.
