Gardaí probing dissident link to Coolock pipe bomb

Gardaí in Dublin reportedly believe that dissident republicans manufactured a pipe bomb that exploded outside a house in the Coolock area of the city yesterday afternoon.

The bomb, which was planted inside a flask packed with nails and shotgun pellets, exploded outside the house of a second-hand car dealer on Glin Road. Nobody was injured in the blast.

Reports this morning said gardaí were investigating whether or not the device was linked in any way to a lunchbox bomb intercepted at the West-Link toll bridge last December and another pipe bomb found in Coolock two weeks earlier.

The reports said detectives believed both those devices were manufactured by dissident republicans, who are believed to have sold the second bomb to Dublin criminals for use in a gangland feud.
