No prosecution forthcoming over shellfish-pickers rescue
No prosecution is to be made in the case of 11 periwinkle pickers who were rescued from a small island off Skerries in Dublin last year.
A lifeboat rescued the workers shortly after 9am on November 5, after their employer told them he was unable to collect them from the uninhabited island.
The Department of Employment said a prosecution could not be made because no "employment relationship" could be established between the workers and their boss.
So far none of the shellfish pickers, who are all Latvian, have lodged complaints.
