Jury to begin deliberations in Georgina Eagar murder trial
A British jury is expected to retire to consider its verdict today in the trial of an alternative therapist accused of murdering his Irish girlfriend in Dublin two years ago.
Sixty-three-year-old Christopher Newman, an Indian-born Briton, has admitted stabbing 28-year-old Georgina Eagar to death at her home in the Walkinstown area of Dublin in May 2003.
However, he has denied the charge of murder and is pleading self-defence.
Ms Eagar, a native of Co Wicklow, had worked for Mr Newman at his alternative therapy clinic in Walkinstown.
The 63-year-old, who was arrested in London on the night Ms Eagar's body was found, is being tried in Britain under new legislation that allows the courts to hear cases relating to crimes committed in other jurisdictions.
