Govt considers €15m aid for flood victims
The cabinet is set to approve €15m in aid for the residential victims of last week’s devastating floods in Cork, Waterford, Wexford and Tipperary.
Reports this morning said proposed funding would be brought before the cabinet for approval tomorrow and would be available to flood victims over and above any insurance payout they may receive.
The reports said the money would be made available to families and individuals affected by the floods, but businesses would have to rely on their insurance.
Thousands of homes and business premises were damaged by the floods, which were sparked by a combination of heavy rains, a low pressure weather system and high tides.
The Co Tipperary town of Clonmel was one of the worst-affected areas, with the rivers Suir and Anner both bursting their banks and leaving several streets underwater.
