Drowning tragedy 'almost beyond words'

Politicians have described a drowning tragedy in Co Down where two children died as "almost beyond words".

Two young boys drowned in a private swimming pool, it emerged today. The boys, aged four and two, died despite desperate attempts to revive them after they were rushed to hospital.

The pair were taken from the pool at a house in the Ardaveen area of Newry, Co Down, around 5.30pm yesterday.

SDLP Newry and Armagh MLA Dominic Bradley said: “There are some events which are almost beyond words. All we can do is try to convey our feelings to those most closely affected by the tragedy.

“I know that the whole community will join with me in expressing our deepest sympathy to the parents and families involved.”
