SIPTU to ballot members in Brinks dispute

Both sides are expected to return to the Labour Relations Commission early next week in an effort to solve the dispute at Brinks Allied, which has seen some ATM machines run out of cash in recent days.

However, in an escalation of the dispute, SIPTU members at the company are to ballot members on full strike action on Monday.

They had offered to return to work under old work practices but this offer was rejected by management.

SIPTU's Kevin McMahon said that this dispute was about "basic health and safety matters" and that the union has behaved reasonably throughout the affair.

He pointed out that the union had always agreed to appear before the reconvened LRC conciliation conference, even though the company initially refused to attend.
