FSAI urges food vigilance during hot summer
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) today raised its concern about the marked increase in food poisoning incidents during the summer months.
It has warned the food industry to rigidly adhere to best food safety practices given that the notifications of food-borne illness reach their peak during the summer months.
The FSAI stated that as summer temperatures rise so too does food-borne illness and industry has a legal responsibility to protect consumer health.
According to Alan Reilly, Deputy CEO, FSAI, food poisoning can be a serious illness, but is absolutely avoidable if adequate food hygiene and temperature controls are in place.
