Spanish fisherman airlifted to hospital in Galway

A British RAF helicopter has airlifted a Spanish fisherman to hospital in Galway after he suffered a serious hand injury while working off the coast of Co Mayo this morning.

The man suffered the injury on board a Spanish trawler around 350 miles northwest of Mayo.

The airlift operation was co-ordinated by the Dublin Coast Guard and also involved a RAF reconnaissance aircraft.
