A group representing some of the women who had their wombs removed by Drogheda obstetrician Dr Michael Neary has decided to boycott the inquiry established to investigate.

Patient Focus said it was withdrawing from the inquiry because the terms of reference were too narrow and because the inquiry did not have the power to compel witnesses or documents.

Dr Neary was struck off the medical register last year for unnecessarily removing the wombs of 10 women while he worked at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth.
