Aer Lingus pilots handed posthumous award

The two pilots who flew the Aer Lingus plane that crashed into the Irish Sea at Tuskar Rock in 1969 were honoured last night.

The two pilots who flew the Aer Lingus plane that crashed into the Irish Sea at Tuskar Rock in 1969 were honoured last night.

Their relatives are to pick up the first ever Wright Brothers Award, an honour bestowed by pilots union IALPA.

The cause of the tragic accident has never been established.

But a report into the incident last year commended the flight crew for their attempts to save the crippled aircraft.
