Campaigners against the bin tax in Dublin have mounted blockades at all seven waste depots in the capital today in an attempt to prevent the collection of rubbish throughout the city.

A spokesperson for the protestors said the group intended to prevent bin lorries from leaving the depots for as long as possible.

The blockades will be following by a rally outside the GPO on O’Connell Street this afternoon.

Today’s action was arranged following the jailing of 13 more bin tax campaigners in the past week.

The 13 were jailed for refusing to obey a High Court injunction outlawing the obstruction of refuse collection.

Campaigners against the bin tax have been blockading bin lorries in cul-de-sacs since the local authorities began implementing new laws allowing them to refuse to collect rubbish from people boycotting the waste charges.

The new laws were introduced by the Government after a court ruling said the local authorities were obliged to collect all household rubbish regardless of whether people had paid for collection or not.
