DTO reports fall in Dublin car commuters

The Dublin Transportation Office has reported a 2% fall in the number of commuters using their cars to drive to work in Dublin last year.

However, in its annual report for 2002, the office said 70% of commuters were still using cars to get to work and congestion levels were still as bad as they were in 1997.

The report said the number of people using Dublin Bus had increased by 40% since quality bus corridors were introduced in 1997.

It said a total of 280,000 commuters use cars to get to work in Dublin, 48,000 walk to work, 19,000 cycle and 28,000 travel by rail.
