Cullen vows to continue Sellafield fight
Environment Minister Martin Cullen has vowed to continue Government legal action against Sellafield, despite the UN Court of Arbitration dismissing efforts to gain access to confidential information about the operation of the nuclear plant.
However, he appeared to suggest that the Irish campaign to shut down the controversial nuclear plant had been replaced by a campaign to end radioactive discharges into the Irish Sea.
He said: "We've got to assess the entire judgement with the Attorney General.
"Clearly, we want to pursue this through whatever jurisdiction we can. The bottom line for Ireland now is the ending of discharges into the Irish Sea."
Fine Gael spokesman Bernard Allen echoed the minister's comments and said the Government should pressure Britain into reducing or eliminating discharges into the Irish Sea from Sellafield.
