Librarian attack: Last man released

The last of three men held for questioning by gardai investigating an assault on a librarian as he pushed his bicycle through the centre of Dublin last month, was released last night without charge.

The victim, 35-year-old Barry Duggan, was apparently attacked by a group of young men when he lost his balance while pushing his bicycle and fell into them.

The attack happened close to Grafton Street in Dublin city centre on April 13.

All three men contacted the police voluntarily last weekend, but today marked the first time they had been questioned under caution. Two men, aged 22 and 26, were released earlier yesterday.

He was dragged down a nearby street and badly beaten and kicked about the head and body before being left unconscious.

Gardai confirmed that a file on the case was being submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
