New Dublin traffic plan comes into force
Dublin City Council’s complicated new traffic plan comes into force this morning.
The scheme, which creates an inner and outer orbital route around Dublin city centre, was designed to reduce the volume of traffic in the city centre and improve the environment for pedestrians and cyclists.
South-bound traffic on North Frederick Street is banned under the plan and all traffic on Pearse Street must now turn right into Tara Street.
There are also new restrictions around Smithfield.
The new traffic scheme will also incorporate new signage around the inner and orbital routes, a move that has caught the attention of Transport Minister Seamus Brennan.
Mr Brennan is reportedly unhappy with the signage as it does not conform to the system in place throughout the rest of the country.
His officials have sought a meeting with Dublin City Council to discuss the plan.
