The claim has been made at the largest annual gathering of American scientists in Boston.

A report before the conference shows stocks have dropped by one sixth in the past century.

The University of British Columbia says the situation is far worse than previously thought.

Experts say if current trends continue then people in Europe, Canada and the Eastern US will in 10 years time be talking about fish as if they were a ‘myth’.
