Garda corruption tribunal set for approval
The possibility of a public tribunal into allegations of Garda corruption in Donegal will be discussed in the Dáil today.
Cabinet approval of the investigation would be welcomed by the McBrearty family, who have been campaigning for a wide-ranging inquiry for years.
The McBreartys claim they were the victims of a relentless tirade of Garda harassment following the death of cattle dealer Richie Barron.
Head of the family Frank McBrearty, who is a publican in Raphoe, was served with 160 summonses for licensing and traffic offences, all of which were later dropped.
To avoid prejudicing any criminal proceedings, part of the hearings may be held in camera.
