Youghal Carpets to close with loss of 300 jobs

Youghal Carpets in Carrigtwohill, Co Cork, has announced plans to close early next year with the loss of up to 300 jobs.

The US-owned carpet factory blamed a dramatic fall in sales for the closure. It said the failure to agree a redundancy package with SIPTU left it with no option but to close.

MANDATE had successfully negotiated a redundancy deal and is still hopeful that it can continue talks with management.

The company has set February 8 as a provisional closure date.
