Sinn Fein councillors deny public order charges

Two west Belfast Sinn Fein councillors today faced court on public order charges.

Michael Brown, 39, and Paul Maskey, 34, appeared at Dublin District Court charged with offences relating to an incident in Dublin city centre.

The pair were allegedly involved in a disturbance outside a fast food shop called Abra Kebabra in the early hours of September 29, the weekend that the Sinn Fein party conference was being held in the city.

They were arrested on Westmorland Street after reports that a shop window had been broken.

Both pleaded not guilty to charges under the Public Order Act. They were granted bail.

The case will appear again for mention at Richmond Metropolitan District Court on March 4.
