Lawlor hearing to reopen

Liam Lawlor's lawyer will return to the High Court this morning as the embattled Dublin TD struggles to prove that he has complied with the Flood Tribunal.

Yesterday, John Traynor, SC for Mr Lawlor, told the court that his client has no more documents to hand over to the tribunal, despite the tribunal's assertion that those handed over so far fall short of what was requested.

If the court rules that Mr Lawlor hasn't complied with an order to deliver all details of his financial dealings, the independent deputy could be sent back to Mountjoy Prison.

Last January, Mr Lawlor spent a week in prison for failing to comply with Justice Fergus Flood's order to furnish all details of his financial and business dealings in Ireland, England, the Czech Republic and Liechtenstein.

The TD was sentenced to three months for contempt of court, but the final two months and three weeks were suspended provided Mr Lawlor co-operated with the order to hand over documents.

Yesterday, his lawyer, Mr Traynor, told the High Court that Mr Lawlor has now provided all available documents.

These include 68 sworn statements and 25,000 pages of evidence.

Mr Traynor said that, as his client's jail sentence was suspended until November, an adjournment at this time would help his client.

The hearing continues at 10.45am.
