Gardai are appealing for information about two cars seen in the vicinity of last night's gangland-style shooting in Dublin.

Seamus Hogan, 49, died after he was shot several times outside a social club in the Crumlin area.

It has been reported that gunmen approached Mr Hogan as he left the transport

club just after 9pm last night and fired up to 14 shots at the victim as he stood at a set of traffic lights at the junction of Rutland Avenue and Clogher Road.

His wife, who was in the car at the time, escaped uninjured.

Chief Superintendent Noel Smith of Sundrive Road garda station is heading up the murder investigation.

He is appealing for information about two cars: "A black Mazda car was seen fairly shortly after the incident only half a mile away from the scene. That car was stolen at least six weeks ago from Drumcondra."

"We do have information that came in this morning that a man who was in the Parnell Road area saw two men in a car who seemed to be waiting for people, and all of a sudden two other men came around the corner and dashed into the car, which sped away towards Harold's Cross."

"We hope to have another news conference around 6.30pm, and we would hope that we would have developed quite an amount of information by then," he concluded.
