Post mortem due on Leitrim body
A post mortem is due to be carried out today on the body of the man whose partially-decomposed remains were discovered in Leitrim yesterday.
The post mortem will take place at Cavan General Hospital. Gardai say it could be weeks before the identity is confirmed.
The man's partially decomposed remains were discovered on wooded land near Ballinamore on Sunday.
Gardaí expect DNA tests to confirm the identity of the body as Gerry McGinley, 34, who disappeared from his Co Fermanagh home last August.
Three people, including Mr McGinley’s 29-year-old wife, Julie, were charged with his murder.
The other two are Michael Monaghan and PJ McPadden, both of Ann Street, Enniskillen. All three were also charged with intending to pervert the course of justice.
The High Court in Belfast has heard allegations that Mrs McGinley was having an affair with Michael Monaghan.
The court heard on May 18 last that Julie McGinley and her husband were operating a sex blackmail racket before his disappearance.
It was alleged that Julie McGinley lured men into compromising positions in a hotel bedroom. She then performed sex acts with them which were videotaped. The recording was subsequently used to blackmail the victim, it was claimed.
The Crown has claimed that Michael Monaghan had a strong motive to murder Gerry McGinley as he was involved in a sexual relationship with his wife. Michael Monaghan denies murdering Gerry McGinley.
The devastated parents of the missing father-of-two were still waiting by the phone last night awaiting the outcome of DNA tests to identify human remains found in a woodland in Co Leitrim.
Speculation was growing yesterday that remains discovered by two women out walking their children at Ballinamore on Sunday are that of the missing businessman.
His parents Betty and Gerald Snr were praying that their agonising 10-month wait to discover the fate of their son was coming to an end.
