Dublin to get super authority

Dublin could be getting a new super authority that would also have control over strategic planning and public transport in the neighbouring counties of Meath, Kildare and Wicklow.

The option is being considered by the Minister for the Environment Noel Dempsey.

This morning, like every other weekday morning, all main routes into Dublin are choked with rush-hour traffic.

Tackling the gridlock and the planning problems of Dublin’s urban sprawl has been one of the main issues facing the Government and according to reports, one of the solutions being considered is a super authority.

It would control strategic planning and land use, not just in the city, but across neighbouring counties too.

The proposed authority would also have a major say over public transport and would take over the role of the Dublin Transportation Office.
