Radiohead fans left high and dry as tickets go in 60 seconds
The English band released tickets for new European shows, including one at the 3 Arena in Dublin on June 20.
Standing tickets priced at €61.45 went on sale at 9am from Ticketmaster but they were gone by 9.01am and the whole arena was sold out in 30 minutes.
Ticketmaster blocked tickets from availability on its resale sites Getmein and Seatwave. However, an hour after the 9am sale window opened, reselling site StubHub was advertising tickets for the gig at €750 each, despite the band attempting to stamp this out by forcing people to bring ID to shows.
Stubhub said: “It is perfectly legal to resell tickets in the UK including on platforms such as StubHub.”
However, anyone who buys tickets from a reseller may not be allowed to enter the venue because of strict rules introduced by Radiohead. The band put a limit of four tickets per person.
The name of the purchaser will appear on each ticket and photo identification will be required to make sure it matches the name on the ticket.
Asked if fans who bought tickets would actually be able to attend if unable to match their name to that on the ticket, StubHub said it would “work on getting the ticket buyer into the venue, or provide them with a full refund”.
Some fans claimed they were told the most-wanted tickets were unavailable —before they even went on sale.
In a tweet last night, Radiohead said: “Stringent ID checks will be in place. You risk being refused entry to the venue.”
