Crosshaven to welcome thousands ready to set sail for Cork Week
There are two new events within the racing this year — the inaugural IRC European Championships and the International Inter Sailing Services Competition, the Beaufort Cup.
Racing takes place from next Monday to Thursday and each evening the tented village at Royal Cork Yacht Club in Crosshaven will feature live bands and DJs.
Highlights in the entertainment line-up include a free family fun day tomorrow, hosted by title sponsors Volvo in association with Johnson and Perrott of Mahon Point.
Four-piece rock band Big Generator will entertain the crowds on Thursday from 8pm.
After sailing prizes are awarded the following night The Frank and Walters take to the big stage at 8pm, followed by a fireworks display and fire performers.

Four Air Corps planes will provide a formation flypast at the start of Monday’s Beaufort Cup.
The air corps will also provide a helicopter which will carry out a winching demonstration for spectators. The Beaufort event will be started by the race officer, Peter Crowley, off Haulbowline Island at 10.30am.
There are 13 participating teams, four of which are from the Defence Forces. Other participants include Royal Engineers, the Royal Logistics Corps, the PSNI, the Sea Fisheries Protection Agency, the Marine Institute, the Port of Galway, Baltimore Lifeboat and Crosshaven Lifeboat.
One of the participants in the 24-hour Beaufort Race will be Defence Forces chief of staff, vice admiral Mark Mellett.
To mark the occasion there will be visits from three naval ships to the area: British vessel HMS Dragon and Fort Rosalie and the French warship FS Thetis.
More than 100 yachts are entered in this year’s sailing competitions, which is up on the last event two years ago.
