In the end, as with so many sailing regattas it was the weather that proved the final arbiter for Volvo Cork Week 2016. Thick mist outside Cork Harbour denied most of the racing classes their final day yesterday.

Crosshaven will be thronged with thousands of people over the next few days as sailing events for Volvo Cork Week kick off surrounded by onshore entertainment and with a special flypast by the air corps.

The Irish Naval Service set sail yesterday to help launch one of the country’s top international regattas.
