IRELAND

In the shadow of Dublin Castle, which for so long had been the headquarters of British rule in Ireland, the Minister Charlie Flanagan and 1916 Rising relatives stood side by side at 1.15pm as they observed a minute’s silence in honour of those who died. Police shot a man after he pulled a weapon at a US Capitol checkpoint as spring tourists thronged Washington. The suspect was previously known to police, who last October arrested him for disrupting House of Representatives proceedings and yelling he was a "Prophet of God".

SPORT

Partly because his hand has been forced by injury and partly because it was always his intention to experiment in these Easter friendlies, Martin O’Neill will once again mix and match for tonight’s friendly game against Slovakia at the Aviva Stadium. Meanwhile, the FAI have confirmed that Belarus will provide Ireland with a final pre-European Championships warm-up game at Turner’s Cross in Cork on Tuesday, May 31.
