IRELAND

A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault on a female judge in one of Dublin’s family law courts. Judge Miriam Walsh was taken to hospital, but has since been discharged.

The European Central Bank says Ireland's plans for charging stamp duty on ATM withdrawals could be illegal.

A teenage girl from Dublin, who was injured at Hook Head in Co Wexford last weekend, has died. The girl was one of two teenagers who were winched to safety by the rescue helicopter after they were swept out to sea by a freak wave.

The National Coordination Group says water levels are continuing to rise in the lower half of the River Shannon. Jim Casey from the Office of Public Works, says levels are rising in the middle and lower half of the river's basin.

Calls have been made to exempt families with flooded properties from paying property tax. With more rain predicted tomorrow and on into next week, many areas are still at a high risk of flooding and the Red Cross and Defence Forces are assisting flood hit communities across the country.

There has been a further fall in the number of mortgages in arrears. Figures released by the Central Bank show that more than 92,000 mortgages for principal dwelling houses were in arrears in the three months to the end of September.
