Gardaí seek information on van used in €200k tiger raid in Dublin

Gardaí in Coolock in Dublin are investigating after an early-morning raid resulted in two women being traumatised, and a man forced to procure money through his job as a cash-in-transit employee, before handing it over to the gang in the grounds of Dublin Airport.

Events unfolded from 5am when three men, at least one of whom was armed with a handgun, entered a house on Gracefield Road in Artane.

The masked men told the GSLS security firm worker, who is in his 50s, to go to work as normal, while they took his partner, also in her 50s, and her daughter, who is in her 20s, away in a silver VW Caddy van. The vehicle, which had a registration number beginning with 09D, then drove around for a number of hours.

The man attended work as normal and then transferred a sum of money, again as part of his work routine, to the airport. But in the vicinity of Corballis Road Business Park, he had to hand over the cash to the gang.

The man then raised the alarm at around 8.40am.

When gardaí responded to the scene, they found the man in a GSLS van, by which time he had been joined by two work colleagues.

At around 9.15am, a passer -by in the Chestnut Grove estate, Dunboyne, in Co Meath, heard screams coming from the Caddy van. Inside, the two women, who had been bound and gagged, were found.

The van was taken for forensic examination while gardaí appealed for anyone with any information to come forward.

GSLS made no comment yesterday when contacted about the raid.

No one was physically injured during the ordeal but a garda spokesman said: “The trauma is significant in itself.”

Gardaí want to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity in any of the locations involved or information on a small white box-type van which was parked in the vicinity of Corballis Road Business Park between 7am and 8.30am yesterday.
