As part of the bail conditions, the accused was ordered to stay out of the northside of Cork City.

Garda Desmond Prendergast charged John Faulkner, aged 32, of 12 City Park House, Sullivan’s Quay, and brought him before Cork District Court yesterday.

He was charged with four counts, including driving without insurance or a licence, possessing stolen property — namely the tablet computer — and having an implement for the purpose of committing thefts.

Garda Prendergast said gardaí were opposed to bail as they believed he would commit further offences.

Emmet Boyle, solicitor, applied for bail on Mr Faulkner’s behalf.

Judge Aingil Ní Chondúin said she would grant bail to the accused.

Mr Faulkner is required to reside at his address at Sullivan’s Quay and keep a nightly curfew from 10pm. Other conditions require him to abstain from intoxicants, sign daily at Anglesea Street Garda Station, keep away from a named man, and to stay out of the northside of Cork City.

The judge warned Mr Faulkner: “If you set a foot astray and breach one condition, I will estreat bail set at his own bond of €1,000.”

She added:

“There is no room for messing with me. Get on with it.”
