Student’s €2,750 graffiti spree

In Tallaght Court, Judge Bridget Reilly asked Daniel Kernan how he would feel if somebody sprayed graffiti across his parents’ house. Kernan replied: ā€œI would get upset.ā€

The court heard Kernan’s antics were first rumbled when the gardaĆ received a complaint from the Yellow House Pub in Rathfarnham after graffiti had been sprayed on a wall. On investigating the case, it transpired that there was graffiti at seven or eight locations throughout Rathfarnham.

The total bill for the damage came to €2,745.

Kernan, aged 20, Willowbank Park, Rathfarnham, admitted to criminal damage by spraying ā€˜ā€SKā€ on a post box on Main St, Rathfarnham, on May 20, 2014.

He also admitted to criminal damage by spraying ā€œSKā€ on two green bins on Willowbank Rd, on a wall at Glenbrook Park, at the entrance to Glenbrook Park estate, and on the welcome sign at Rathfarnham Castle, all on June 20, 2014.

George Burns, defending, said his client had €2,750 in compensation in court.

Judge Reilly asked Kernan:ā€How did you get the money. Are you going to tell me it was by house painting?ā€

Kernan replied: ā€œYes. I did a little. I worked in a bike shop and a wine distributor as well.ā€

The case was struck out.
