Men told to stay out of Cork after theft and garda chase
Two of the men, one with an address in Cork and the other with an address in Limerick, have been remanded in custody, while the other two, both with addresses in Limerick, have been remanded on bail with conditions, including a curfew and instructions to stay out of Co Cork.
The four — two sets of brothers — who were being pursued by gardaí, were arrested after a collision on the Kinsale Road roundabout in Cork on Friday afternoon.
They were brought before a special sitting of Cork District Court on Saturday morning.
Martin McDonagh, 27, of the unofficial halting site, Coonagh Roundabout, Ennis Road, Limerick; and his brother, James McDonagh, 19, of the same address, were both charged with a single count of stealing tools from a vehicle parked in the Castle Road area of Muskerry Estate, Ballincollig on February 27.
Aaron O’Halloran, 25, of 55 Gould Street, Cork, and his brother, Darren O’Halloran, 29, of Aura Cottage, Dublin Road, Limerick, were also charged with the theft of tools from the same vehicle.
Aaron O’Halloran was further charged with three counts of dangerous driving between Muskerry Estate and the Kinsale Road roundabout on the same date.
The court was told the alleged theft was observed by two off-duty gardaí before the high-speed pursuit began. Gardai said they had no objection to Darren O’Halloran or James McDonagh being remanded on bail subject to them staying out of Co Cork, observing a 10pm to 8am curfew at their respective addresses, signing on twice daily at Roxboro and Henry Street garda stations, respectively, and each providing a mobile phone number to gardaí.
Judge Olann Kelleher remanded both on bail to appear again on March 11.
Gardaí objected to a bail application by Aaron O’Halloran.
Despite a direct plea to the judge from the father of two young children, Judge Kelleher refused bail and remanded him and Martin McDonagh in custody for both to appear in court again on Wednesday.
